Abstract
Tractor and semi-trailer (T&St) transportation is helpful to promoteproductivity of freight transportation and to reduce CO2(carbon dioxide)emission according to different countries’ experience. The supervisors of Chinahave released certainpolicies to encourage the development of T&St transportation, whilelogistics enterprises and academia haven’t adapted timely to practice. Thepaper analyzed some basic characters of T&St transportation. The practice periodsof T&St transportation in Chinawere reviewed and the most necessary issues of T&St transportation werebrought forward. A descriptive model was set to analyze the relationshipbetween economic profits and CO2emission of T&St transportation. We couldfind that T&St transportation could generate considerable economic benefitsand effects on CO2emission reduction.
1 Introduction
China’s logistics industry hasgrown rapidly in recent years while enterprises’ operation mode is extensiveand logistics costs are too much. In practice, Chinahas great potential to speedup the turnover efficiency of vehicles and to improve the level of logistics operation. Roadtransportation is the most basic component for the development of logistics. DevelopingT&St transportation can improve freight transportation efficiency, speed uptruck stock turnover and save tractor purchase and storage costs. Therefore,T&St transportation is probably helpful to reduce the logistics costs in thewhole nation. Meanwhile, Ro-Ro transportation and hump transportation need thefully developing of T&St transportation as certain support. So, T&Sttransportation is an important basis of multimodal transportation.
